The word "tastes and colors are indisputable" has become a cliché used to close the issue when there is a disagreement about beauty and ugliness. Pleasure literally means the ability to distinguish the beautiful from the ugly. It is not my purpose to discuss the meaning of this phrase. To tell you what inferences you can make from the situation when this phrase is spoken against you. If someone is saying this to you, know that there is something original about your taste, but they are not expressing it directly, they cannot. Do not deceive yourself that tastes and colors are indisputable, I can wear whatever I want. If you remember in my previous articles, I mentioned that there is a mathematics of befitting. Tastes and colors are also discussed and should be discussed… First of all, they must be understood.
I would like to emphasize that everyone can make their choice freely. In this article, there is information obtained as a result of studies based on how colors come together in harmony in nature and existence. I'm sure it will work for you.
In this article, I have discussed pleasure only in terms of harmony. You can find the details below.
1. Is our visual preference compatible with itself?
We pay attention to 3 things to achieve harmony. Color harmony, style harmony, conformity to our body structure and measurements.
a. Tonality
Now I will give you one of the secrets of looking beautiful. Are you ready? Let's ask our question first.
How is color match (tonality) achieved?
Color matching is completely dependent on the rules. Nature itself wrote these rules. Man discovered it. Although the formulas are very easy, most of us experience the biggest confusion when choosing the colors that suit us. In my article on which color, I gave information as an introduction. From there, find out which season type you are and identify your colors. Definitely. After that, do not put colors other than those colors in your wardrobe. If available, present it immediately to the appropriate people around you.
There was an important issue that I had not mentioned before; it was about which colors could be used with which colors. Now is the time to elaborate it.
Remember the color wheel. We divided the colors into 3 main colors. Secondary colors followed. These colors were obtained by mixing two of the three primary colors, respectively, etc. (mirror mirror tell me what's my color? you can check the blog post.)
Now I will tell you which colors would be appropriate to use with which colors in a very simple way: Before adapting this work to your own colors, make sure to determine what your color season is. The colors you choose should be from your own color wheel. In the following explanation, I used an example, basic color wheel to help you understand the formulas without doing hue and saturation work.
Complementary Colors:
Select a color on the color wheel. This color must be one of the colors of your season type. You can easily find color palettes suitable for your season type by searching the internet. The color that corresponds directly to the color you choose from the color wheel (Color Wheel) is the complementary color of that color. These colors look very nice when used together. Since they contain very high contrast, it is necessary to use them carefully and in moderation. When the saturation is high, it can be more noticeable than desired.
Your jewelry can also contain one of these two colors. For this example, I have 2 stone suggestions. The first is fire opal. The second is turquoise. Decide what your metal should be by looking at the 12 color season chart.
Analogous Colors
Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel are analog colors and generally go well with each other. By choosing these colors, you can create a relaxing and calming effect. As you will notice, analog colors are color combinations that we come across very often in nature. They create a very harmonious and pleasant effect.
Make sure you use enough contrast when making this combination, don't overdo it. For good effect, you can use one color more dominant and choose the second color as supportive. The third color would be great if used for emphasis.
Lots of options for this example. But my suggestion is blue sapphire, lapis lazuli, quartz, tourmaline, emerald.
Triadic Colors
When you create an evenly spaced triangle on the color wheel, the colors corresponding to the vertices form a color harmony. With this method, no matter how saturated and pale colors you use in color selection, you can create an extremely lively effect. If you want to use this method effectively, choose a color as the dominant and main color. Use other colors to accentuate as well.
Cross Complementary Colors
We can think of it as a sub-title of complementary colors. Choose a main color and use the colors on both sides of that color, not directly opposite. This choice creates less tension than the use of complementary colors. Because it contains less contrast.
Rectangle Color Harmony: (Tetradic Colors)
Although it seems to be getting harder and harder, it is not difficult to grasp. It means using 4 complementary colors together. Remember to choose a dominant color here too. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to keep the cool and warm color balance. Remember, blue was the main color for cold, yellow and red for warm. Other colors were obtained by mixing these colors and black, white and gray.
Square Color Harmony
Similar to rectangular color harmony, but this time we make evenly spaced selections on the color wheel. Again, if you choose a color as the dominant color, you will get a nice result. Make sure to keep the balance of hot and cold…
b. Style Harmony
Let's first define what a style is. In its simplest sense, style is a form of expression. It can be your own style or a style that reflects you, produced by others that you admire and take as an example.
Again, avoid confusing messages here. Know what everything you wear and wear means. If you have chosen clothes with foreign language writings, make sure to research and find out what it means. They can be funny or embarrassing. Symbols may have meanings you do not want. Pay attention to this in your jewelry.
c. Compatibility with our body structure and measurements
Knowing and loving your body is paramount. Remember, we are all beautiful within ourselves. Never compare yourself to others. But do this. I've told you before about ideal human studies. It is possible to catch this golden ratio with your clothes and jewellery. Your leg length may be longer than your upper body. Then do not choose high waist clothes. Your neck may be too long. Do not choose earrings and necklaces that will make your neck even longer. Your hands may be larger than your torso. Do not highlight your hands with large rings.
2. Is our choice appropriate for our environment?
Being visible is not just about ourselves. Taking care of and shaping our appearance is related to society, status, profession, belief, etc. is relevant.
What can a person tell the most visually in his naked state? You tell me. His age, whether he does sports, whether he has a disability, whether he is expecting a baby or not, his health... However, what he wears tells so much about him... His income, whether he is fond of freedom, his religious belief, profession, what he does (sports, sports, etc.) Going to a nightclub, being at school requires different clothes), whether he is a social person or not, whether he wants to attract attention, whether he has fears, anxieties, suppressions, desires... Man has attributed such meanings to clothing so that it can mediate nonverbal communication. When you go to the hospital, you can tell who is the doctor, who is the nurse, who is the patient, by their clothes. Our choices enable us (I am waiting for your comments, what could this mean if we went to the wedding in jeans and a shirt), enable us to convey the messages we want to convey clearly, or cause us to give them in a mixed way if we are unable to do so. The point where we discuss tastes is about whether the message we convey is true or false, whether it is clear or not.
I would like you to observe yourself and those around you from this perspective. What nonverbal message is person x conveying with their clothing choices today?
